A man shot and killed by police in California’s Central Valley was an innocent mistake, a law enforcement official said Monday.
Police responded to a home invasion call in the Sacramento suburb of Alameda late Sunday night, the California Highway Patrol said in a statement.
A deputy shot and wounded the man who then ran away, said the HCP, which added that officers chased him on foot.
Authorities said the man shot himself after he was apprehended.
He was pronounced dead at a hospital.
